Blackwater U3A Birdwatching Group

The Birdwatching Group’s expeditions are usually on the first Friday of the month during autumn, winter and spring. It is essential to write your telephone number next to your signature when signing the agreement to participate in order to facilitate cancellation, if necessary, due to bad weather. If you yourself have to cancel please advise me as soon as possible on 01621 852377 or 07881 680260.

The charge/donation for each expedition is normally between £3 and £5. Please always pay the relevant fee at the time of signing the register indicating your participation. The register will show whether or not toilets and refreshments or luncheons are available at or near to the reserve to be visited. It is not practical for more than twelve members to participate on an expedition.

Many visits are made within the Maldon and Colchester districts. We share cars when travelling to reserves. Each passenger pays the driver a set contribution towards the cost of fuel depending on the distances. It would be helpful if, those members not wishing to drive, first seek an accommodating driver and then if a car place has not been achieved then they should come to me and I will endeavour to solve the matter. These arrangements are best made before the day of departure.

Future expeditions

Friday 8^th June	Provisional booking to Essex Wildlife Trust, Ray Island off Mersea Island. Guide David Nicholls. Meet at West Maldon Community Centre for car share. Time to be arranged according to tide times.
Friday 20^th July	Guided visit to EWT Stow Maries in the evening to see and learn about bats and glow worms after a meal at the nearby Prince of Wales Pub. Meet West Maldon Community Centre at 6pm.
