The Craft Group meets at the coordinator’s home on the 4th Thursday
each month at 2.30. Initially 5 members met, but now we have 8
regulars. The group began by learning some card making techniques.
We began with stamping and peel offs which we coloured. This was
followed by sewn cards with and without sequins which helped us to
learn mounting. Cards were also made using folded paper to produce
an iris effect and pyramid decoupage where we had to measure and cut
very carefully.
The next craft we tried was sewn bead work. Firstly, we made
spiral rope necklaces and then a daisy chain bracelet. The group
were challenged by these themes !! Christmas saw us turn to making
sequin and pin baubles for the table decorations we produced - the
results were on show at the U3A Christmas party.
In January, we started a new topic - Crochet. So far, we
haven't progressed beyond squares but have learned the basic
stitches and how to make different squares. Our aim is to produce a
large baby blanket which will go to a charity.
In March, some of us went to a craft show at Olympia. As we
enjoyed this trip, we hope to visit other shows in the future. We
hope to learn other skills while enjoying a chatty Thursday
afternoon, discussing many topics and sharing ideas.
At our November meeting, we made Christmas decorations and
enjoyed a Christmas buffet.
